Why DPF Cleaning
If you own a diesel car then chances are you have a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). Over time, these soot-removing filters become clogged, and should be cleaned periodically to avoid costly repairs. Our DPF Deep Clean is a professional workshop treatment designed to clean partially blocked DPFs with some soot build-up. It includes an inspection of your DPF to understand the cause of the blockage, a direct flush of the filter and a test drive of at least 60 minutes. Book in today and have the peace of mind knowing your DPF is clean, potentially saving you thousands of pounds in costly DPF repairs.

Signs Your DPF is Blocked
With most vehicles the DPF warning light will illuminate to notify you that the unit is becoming blocked and requires regeneration. When conditions are met for regeneration, it will attempt to burn off the built up soot using either an active, or passive regeneration. If the regeneration is unable to occur or fails you may be treated to an additional warning light on your dash.

A DPF warning light means soot is blocking the filter. Your engine may go into ‘limp-home’ mode, with sharply reduced power and efficiency. Or it may refuse to go at all. A new DPF is expensive and you will probably have to wait days for delivery and fitting.
Our engineer brings special equipment to remove the blockage and regenerate the DPF so you can resume normal driving. It’s much faster, and much cheaper. Many garages want to replace your DPF with a new unit, or send it to a cleaning company.
In both cases you will lose use of your car while you wait for the garage to carry out removal and re-fitting. There’s no need. Our solution is effective, but much cheaper. It is carried out on the spot, wherever you are.
The first you might know about DPF failure is an engine warning light, or one of the symptoms above. Your car might also go into ‘limp-home’ mode.
We come to you and carry out the full cleaning/regeneration procedure – without removing anything from your car. It takes about an hour. The cost is only a fraction of a DPF replacement.
Something about DPF
Diesel engines are efficient, but they create sooty particulates in their exhaust that are bad for health. Your Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) removes the particulates by pushing exhaust gases through a maze of metal channels, collecting the sooty particulates.
Engine management systems are supposed to regenerate the filter unit when needed by applying high temperatures to the collected soot.
For various reasons this regeneration routine can fail, one of the main reasons is when the car is only used for short journeys, never getting fully up to temperature.
When the filter becomes clogged, exhaust flow is blocked. Eventually your engine management will apply a partial shut-down.
The filter is a closed unit, and expensive to replace. It can be cleaned, however, with the right tools and techniques. If you have an engine management light on, the problem needs to be fixed – even if the light goes off from time to time. The light means the engine is not working properly.
Sometimes, engine management systems will put your car into “limp-home” mode after the fault is detected. That usually doesn’t change till the fault is cleared. You may be able to get home, but until the problem is fixed your car is not really useable.
Most garages will prefer to simply replace the DPF unit, but this is expensive and rarely necessary.
Fortunately the unit can now be effectively cleaned without removal, at much lower cost.
You have the choice of buying a new DPF unit and getting it fitted (the most expensive option), or having your current unit cleaned.
Cleaning can be done by removing the unit and sending it off to be cleaned, or using our in-car cleaning service.
Of all three options, ours is the cheapest and quickest, especially when you consider the garage costs of removing and fitting a unit. Our service is also done while you wait, so you don’t have to be without your car for several days, or even weeks.

There is a fourth option which disreputable garages may offer: they may advise you to have the DPF cut out. In the long run it is by far the most expensive option. Whilst it’s not illegal for them to do this IT IS 100% illegal for you to drive the vehicle once this has happened and if caught you can be liable for a fine upwards of £2000. Your car won’t pass its next MOT and will have little resale value.
There is a good reason for DPFs being a legal requirement – they remove diesel particulates (soot) from the exhaust. None of us wants to be breathing the sooty air that used to come from older diesel engines.
Modern engines with DPFs have actually brought about a very positive change in air quality levels, particularly in cities.
We provide a full, deep cleaning service for all Diesel Particulate Filters and Gasoline Particulate Filters where we aim to remove between 95-98% of the filter’s contents. The service we provide is the following:
Pre-clean Health Check and Investigation: This allows our expert engineer to read all of the live data from your vehicle’s ECU. This will tell them how full the filter is in terms of percentage and the weight of soot in grams so we understand what we need to remove. Alongside this we are also checking all of the vehicle’s sensor, glow plugs and every other component involved with the DPF system to be certain the faults are not being caused by something else and that the clean will be successful
Full Deep Clean of the DPF – Using our in-house manufactured cleaning solution our engineer will being the cleaning process which will take 45-60 mins to complete
Post-clean Health Check and Investigation: We perform a post-clean health check on the vehicle, again to review the live data to ensure we have removed the contents of the DPF, reset any warning lights and that there are no other fault codes you need to be aware of. We will also, where possible, perform a short road test to ensure full power has been restored.
Don’t panic, you’re not the only diesel owner asking such questions, however, Dublin DPF Cleaning is here to help get you and your vehicle back up to speed!
Dublin DPF Cleaning are a team of experienced, DPF cleaning specialists, servicing and restoring diesel vehicle DPFs (short for Diesel Particulate Filter!). We provide a convenient mobile DPF cleaning service for all makes and models offering a range of service packages to suit your vehicle’s needs and it’s not just DPF Cleaning that we offer – we also offer Engine Carbon Cleaning too!
All diesel cars manufactured must be fitted with a DPF in the exhaust to stop harmful soot from passing into the atmosphere. The Euro 5 standard for diesels stipulates this must be included on all diesel vehicles but be mindful of the fact that some cars built before 2009 were fitted with DPFs.
If you’re unsure whether your vehicle has a DPF filter or not please get in touch and we’ll be happy to confirm based on your vehicle’s make, model or registration.
DID YOU KNOW? Your vehicle can fail its MOT if your DPF filter is not functioning properly!
Please note: Petrol engine vehicles do not use Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs). A DPF filter can become blocked over time. Potential causes could include a faulty sensor, incorrect engine oil, a failing turbo or most commonly the vehicle has undertaken too many short journeys where the filter’s regeneration processes has not been initiated. At first, you may be alerted to an engine failure warning light and if ignored, the engine could switch to ‘limp’ mode. At this stage, the vehicle will only allow you to drive very slowly with the intention that you’re to take the car either home or to your nearest garage for inspection and repair.
If the DPF filter is blocked beyond repair then a new DPF filter can cost around Euro1,000, with premium cars costing upwards of Euro 3,500, ultimately wiping out any of the savings associated with owning a diesel engine over a petrol version. Regular cleaning of the DPF can maintain and significantly prolong the life of your filter and ensure you may never have to fork out a hefty sum to replace it.
In the short term, a DPF clean can increase your vehicle’s power output, increasing speed, acceleration and responsiveness. As well as this, you can often expect boosted fuel efficiency – the potential fuel savings could cover the cost of the clean over time! In addition to this, a clean will continue to serve its purpose which is to reduce harmful emissions, reduce engine noise and resolve MOT emissions failures. – That’s right, a blocked filter could easily lead to a failed MOT.
